Document capture, also
referred to as document imaging, is the process of converting
paper or electronic documents into digital images and index
data. Images are stored as data files on a storage system
(typically PDF or TIFF files) and the indexes are stored in a
content management system or database. |
|
| |
|
Documents may arrive by
fax, email, postal mail (paper), web transfer, infra-red PDA
transfer, or cellular phone. |
|
| |
|
Although document capture
or imaging usually refers to the capture of paper
documents, it also includes the capture of documents before
they are ever printed, and electronic documents which never are
printed. In this case, special care must be taken to note the
state and source of the document being captured in such a way
that any tampering with the digital file will be detected by
experts, should a need come up. |

All FileScan products
include the ability to capture paper documents. Most solutions
include document conversion technologies for creating PDF or
TIFF images of electronic files, too. |

Document capture, when
combined with bar code decoders, make a powerful mix of
automated indexing, archiving, workflow, and document
distribution. |
